Production Lead Engineer - Glasgow (Ref: 1411)

We are recruiting for Production Lead Engineer is to oversee the build of complex Engineered projects in the IIS and Hydrogen workshop. This role will be the  single point of contact between production and Engineering functions. To compile clear workshop instructions from Engineering and oversee the actual build within the workshop. To work with the Operations Management; to ensure the efficient planning and capacity within the IIS & Hydrogen operational area. the build quality meets expectations; planned On Time Delivery; financial targets are achieved and communicated.

Essential Experience, Qualifications and Competencies

Degree or equivalent Design Engineering, Production Engineering or Science based discipline

  • Membership of IET, IMechE
  • Clear and Demonstrable managerial experience in a workshop/service facility environment. With a strong understanding of all allied Mechanical Engineering disciplines
  • Experience in the setting up of new workshops and diversification of operations into new markets
  • Proven track record of delivering quality product on or ahead of time and budget
  • Experience of business process development in a related industry
  • Workshop/Production Manager with good communication and people skill
  • Proven organizer with strong motivational skills
  • Enthusiasm, drive & initiative.

Desirable Experience, Qualifications and Competencies

  • Health and Safety training such as IOSH or NEBOSH
  • 6 Sigma Green/yellow belt
  • Management/business qualification from recognised provider.
  • Chartered Status or working towards attaining
  • Clear and demonstrable managerial experience – people management and leadership
  • Experience in Lean engineering principles.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Be the champion of Health, safety, and quality culture across the workshop team
  • Be accountable to drive process improvements that delivers our products to meet customer and engineering requirements
  • Drive issue identification/resolution, use tools such as 8D to deliver tracked and in control changes to the production environment. Hold teams accountable for issues and delivery of solutions to the production line in a controlled and tracked way   
  • Be an expert voice – Thorough the NPD process and NPD gates you will be expected to give input on how to deliver new products and how to efficiently manufacture to meet all KPI’s and legal requirements. This will include identification of key skillsets within the workshop to deliver the products
  • Be a mentor to the teams both inside and outside the organisation, this will require you to keep abreast of current methods and trends within the Hydrogen industry
  • Compile clear workshop instructions from interpretation of all Hydrasun build area. Your attention to detail is key to maintain a safe product
  • Minimise any rework or wastage within the production environment. Promote constant improvement techniques to drive efficiency and improve overall quality
  • Play a key leadership role in further developing the workshop team to focus on what is necessary for the organisation to achieve its overall goals within the workshop
  • Work as a team with the project engineer to become a formidable team in delivering the highest quality at the target price and to the agreed delivery dates
  • Identify and implement required systems, process, tooling, and equipment required to carry out bespoke IIS & Hydrogen workshop builds
  • Work with Operational management; Engineering teams to understand and phase production builds
  • Be the voice of production in internal meetings and with external group members to drive requirement on build, delivery and cost
  • Produce a time agreed production status report to key stakeholders and when required attend and present production readiness/current status of inflight builds 
  • Communicate with Design Engineers and relay job pack detail, drawings, and specific specification detail to assembly technicians
  • Chair and own a drumbeat meeting where information can be shared and updated/delivered to colleagues throughout the organisation
  • Effective transfer of lessons learned and development of best practices for production matters
  • Ensuring that the work is produced and delivered through processes which are capable clearly specified and consistently controlled in conjunction with the Company’s Quality Procedures, BS EN ISO 9001:2000 and customer specifications
  • Leading and participating in internal and external operational audits processes
